MUSICIAN
A native of Augusta, GA; Rodney Allen, Jr. has been active on the Atlanta music scene for over a decade. He attributes much of his inspiration to his dad, Rodney Allen Sr., who is a professional musician and retired band director from Atlanta, GA.
In 2017, Rodney earned a Master of Music degree with a concentration in Jazz Studies from Georgia State University. He earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Clayton State University in 2015.
Rodney’s versatility ranks him high in demand as a performing musician and educator. His primary instrument is the saxophone but he is also proficient in other woodwinds, brass, keyboards, and percussion instruments.
As a performer, Rodney has had the opportunity to travel across the United States playing a variety styles of music. Some notable artists that Rodney has performed with and for are Ludacris, Kelly Price, Solange Knowles, Wycliffe Gordon, Norman Brown, Paquito D’River, and Kenny Werner. Rodney also has appearances on TV shows as a musician. Some of these shows are Lovecraft Country, American Soul, and Kingdom Business.
His membership of professional music organizations consists of: The Jazz Education Network (JEN), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America Inc.
